Project highlights from the 2023 harvest season now available

The RESPIRAR project takes place from September 2022 to June 2027. We are grateful to all our participants and are pleased to share some highlights from 2023.

We learned more about the farmworkers participating in the project, including demographic information and employer-provided housing conditions. Most participants lived in barracks and camp-style housing, which is typically more crowded.

Our findings show that participants experienced spikes of COVID-19 outbreaks, affecting up to 16% of participants. We also learned that the air quality in the housing typically reached unhealthy levels of COâ‚‚ and particulate matter (PM) 2.5 overnight and while workers cooked.
